September 18

From Peterborough & Wainfleet, Ontario

RICK FINES & SUZIE VINNICK

* Lunch & Show 1-4 pm
* Dinner & Show 7-10 pm

Rick and Suzie are unquestionably two of Canada’s finest Roots/Blues singer/songwriter/guitarists. Either one of them is worth the price of admission but together they bring a special added magic.

Suzie was born in Saskatchewan but moved to Ottawa in the early ‘90’s where she first met Rick. Although they’ve both had long successful solo careers since then they’ve remained good friends and musical collaborators.

Suzie Vinnick’s voice has been described as “spun gold and honey” and she plays a mean guitar – electric, acoustic and bass. Over her career she’s won 10 Maple Blues Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award, 2 International Songwriting Awards and has been nominated 3X for a Juno. She now lives on the Niagara peninsula.

Rick Fines was born and raised in Peterborough where he still lives with his wife and daughter. He’s an engaging storyteller, masterful songwriter and dynamite guitarist – acoustic, electric and slide. He’s won Maple Blues Awards for Best Songwriter and Best Acoustic Act several times as well as an International Songwriting Award and he’s been nominated for both a Juno and an American W.C. Handy Award. In addition to his solo career Rick has had his own Jazz Trio in the past and was a member of the legendary Jackson Delta Trio for many years in the 90’s.

This is Rick & Suzie’s 6th visit to BOTR and they’ve Sold Out every time so book ahead!

October 23 & 24

From Toronto, Ontario

SAMANTHA MARTIN TRIO

Dinner & Show both nights – 7-10 pm

Samantha is a dynamic performer with an incredible voice. She’s also an excellent songwriter and acoustic guitarist. She started out singing karaoke in her late teens and by her early 20’s was already fronting Rock bands doing songs by Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. Then she discovered Soul music (The Staple Singers, Otis Redding) and started focusing on that genre. She released her first album in 2004 then formed her own band in Toronto – Samantha Martin & The Haggard – playing a unique mix of Rockabilly, Soul & Gospel. They morphed into a stripped down quartet with Samantha on lead vocals backed by two great female co-singers and a guitarist. That was the start of Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar. Their first album “Send The Nightingale” in 2015 met with huge success earning her 4 Maple Blues Award nominations and a number of prestigious festival gigs. The she added a full rhythm & horn section and released another hot CD “Run To Me” which earned a Juno Award nomination. An impressive performance at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis that year led to tours in the U.S. and Europe. And now she’s now working on a new album.

For this engagement Samantha appears on vocals and acoustic guitar backed by two members of Delta Sugar – Curtis Chaffey on electric guitar and Andrew Moljgun on keyboards. This is her 3rd visit to BOTR @ The Cove – she appeared with Delta Sugar twice in 2018 selling out both times. Don’t miss her this time around. Reserve ahead!

November 13 & 14

From Ottawa, Ontario

HOROJO TRIO

Dinner & Show both nights – 7-10 pm
Formed in 2019 and consisting of Jamie Holmes on drums (HO), Jeff Rogers (RO) on keyboards & vocals and JW-Jones (JO) on guitar (spells HOROJO) this amazing Soul/Rockin’ R&B Trio has already achieved amazing success. Last January they went down to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and won the Best Band category, beating out over 250 bands from around the world. JW also won for Best Guitarist of the Year. What an incredible double honou!.

Not surprising though -JW has been a high profile player on the Canadian and international Blues scene for over 20 years earning multiple Maple Blues nominations for Guitarist of the Year as well as a Juno nomination for his 2017 album “High Temperature”. The JW-Jones Blues Band has performed in more than 23 countries on 4 continents opening for legendary artists like George Thorogood and Buddy Guy, who, by the way, once said “This young man is one of the people who will keep the Blues alive”!

Jeff Rogers is one of Ottawa’s hardest working musicians clocking over 250 performances a year and Jamie Holmes is an excellent, versatile drummer who has toured throughout North America and Europe and has worked with famous Grammy-winning Producer Tom Hambridge in Nashville.

Don’t miss these guys! Thanks to the COVID pandemic which caused the cancellation of many high profile gigs following their IBC win they’re not as well known as they should be – yet – but they will be. So come to this show and you tell everyone later when they’re famous that got to see them in a great little 50 seater way back when….

As we keep saying – it’s limited capacity for these shows so reserve ahead so you don’t miss out!
