From Hamilton, Ontario
STEVE STRONGMAN BAND |
|
Steve is one of the best guitarists and singer/songwriters in the country and a fabulous LIVE performer. Born and raised in Kitchener he fell in love with the Blues as a teenager after seeing the great Mel Brown perform. Mel recognized his talent immediately and helped mentor him into the superb guitarist that he is today. Steve won the Mel Brown Blues Award in 2009 – a distinction he still treasures highly. In the early 2000’s Steve married a Hamilton girl and moved to that city. He broke on to the scene with a roar in 2006 with the release of his great debut album “Honey”. Since then he’s recorded 8 more - all great - including his newest - “The Strongman Blues Remedy Volume 1” which features some very special guests and has been receiving major international accolades and airplay. He also has an excellent LIVE show DVD.
Steve won a Juno for his 2013 album “A Natural Fact” and two of his other albums have earned Juno nominations. He was named Best Guitarist at the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2019 and he’s won and been nominated for multiple Maple Blues Awards in the categories of Best Guitarist, Songwriter, Recording, Electric Act, Acoustic Act and Entertainer of the Year plus winning several Hamilton Music Awards. Over the years Steve has opened for some of the best Blues artists in the world including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Joe Cocker, Jeff Healey, Randy Bachman and Jimmie Vaughan. This is his 6th visit to BOTR @ The Cove and we are VERY pleased to welcome him and his great band back to kick off the new Summer Outdoor Series!
“Electric Blues is where he lives…exceptional musicianship, superb song crafting, and a personable delivery. You'll want to sing, drink and dance…”” Earshot Magazine, Vancouver |

What can you say about this amazing Swamp Blues/Rock Trio featuring three of Canada’s best - Steve Marriner on vocals, baritone base, keyboards and harp, Tony D on guitar and Matt Sobb on drums. Since they blasted on to the scene in 2008 they’ve released 5 hit albums, won 2 Junos, a staggering 23 Maple Blues Awards, 2 Canadian Independent Music Awards and an American Blues Music Award. They’ve toured relentlessly to just about every corner of Canada as well as the U.S. and a dozen different countries. Wherever they go they make new fans – affectionately known as “Monkey Junkies”. Luminaries like Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues), David Wilcox, Holger Petersen, William Shatner, Ritchie Hayward of Little Feat, actor Bruce Greenwood and many others count themselves as major fans.
MonkeyJunk’s sound is unique – to quote Tony D – “we respect the traditions of Roots music and then give it a modern approach”. We’ve been lucky enough to have them play Blues On The Rideau @ The Cove 3X in the past and Steve Marriner has performed here separately a number of times as well. They never fail to deliver a fantastic show. If you haven’t seen them before be prepared to be blown away. Be sure to bring you dancing shoes!
“Like a well-oiled machine ….an unyielding display of soulful blues rock robustness… a tenacious trio gifted with an arsenal of instrumental ability.” Blues Rock Review, USA |

MISS EMILY w. BAND
|
|
Born and raised in Prince Edward County Soul Blues singer/songwriter Miss Emily Fennell started her career at age 12 performing at county fairs in southern Ontario winning competition after competition with her incredible voice and delivery. By 15 she already had a strong following in Canada, the US and the UK. In 2011 she opened for The Tragically Hip and began a relationship that would change her career and remains tight to this day. Emily has recorded 4 albums to date including her most recent “Defined By Love” which is getting a ton of international airplay. Her previous CD “LIVE At The Isabel” released in 2020 was also very well received earning her 3 Maple Blues Awards that year for Best Female Vocalist, New Artist and the Sapphire Award for Video Of The Year. She won Best Female Vocalist again in 2022 and received a Juno Award nomination that year as well. And she was nominated again for the Maple Blues Award for Female Vocalist Of The Year this past year.
To say that Miss Emily is a rising star on the Canadian and international Blues scene is an understatement. We are very fortunate to have her perform here in the intimate setting of The Cove Inn Patio after a full summer of playing major Festivals as part of her “Defined By Love” Tour. Come and see her and her fabulous band up close and personal while you can – before she becomes too big to play smaller venues like this!
“Miss Emily can bring the house down just as well as Janis Joplin could. Do yourself a favour and catch one of her live shows. Quite simply, WOW!”” Kingston Whig-Standard |
